I don’t have time to start writing or start my Solopreneur business.
Because I am too busy with Job , family and everything else.
I used to tell this story to myself for more than 4 years.
The reality is that -
We really wanted to avoid the uncertainty .
Now that I understood the reason and implemented a solution,
I did able to start 3 businesses
and ready to be uncomfortable to try out new business ideas.
Don’t believe me?
Try to go somewhere and try to give a talk in presence of few people.
Your brain will resist.
That's your defence mechanism which prevent you to start new things.
So,
Let’s break down issue and define a framework on how we can
Stop avoiding
and
Start doing.
The Deep Problem:
Let’s go back to ancient time.
When People were living by hunting.
All our brain need is
eat food
have sex
sleep
That’s it.
The good problem is these basic needs are no more a problem.
We are not fighting for survival , we are fighting for desire or fear now-a-days.
So, Today also if you have to start content creation for survival -
I bet
You do not need motivation to start your content creation business.
The Solution
Since we do not have the challenge of survival,
We need to leverage the power of Motivation.
Motivation is not generic
but We can Scientifically define
Motivation = Emotion * Energy * Edge forward * Encouragement
No matter what you do
I realised that absence of any one element out of these 4 will result in no motivation of doing the task.
Let’s understand, each one in detail.
1. Emotion & Energy:
Emotions are energy in motion.
So, if you wanted to start a new content creation or business
You need energy.
Step -1: Find Energy Boosters
The question that we need to ask ourself is
What gives us Energy ?
I find myself as researcher
and researching anything gives me energy
So
I end up choosing the businesses which I really enjoy.
Step-2: Identify Your Personality
Each human is one of the following type of personality
I am Chetah
Which type of personality are you?
“C” for Chetah
These type of people are always on the move.
They are fast acting and always on the move.
These type of personality thrive in fast changing environment.
“O” for Owl
These type of personality are logical thinkers.
The love data, facts to define and understand any problem.
They often are critical thinkers.
Professions like “data science” suits them.
“D” for Dolphin
Dolphins are creative visionaries.
They love problem solving.
They are great at patter recognition .They see pattern in anything to solve a problem that normally people miss.
The creators normally belong to this category.
“E” for Elephant
They love collaboration.
They are great team player and like collaborative team environment.
They are the best contributors in any team.
Step-3: Define Your Vision
Based on Personalty and interest area identify the type of work you want to do.
Define your purpose in life.
For me, the Purpose is to
“Create proven frameworks to help Solopreneurs being more productive”
Whenever I lack clarity, this purpose gives me energy.
So,
Go ahead and define your Purpose which is linked to your emotions and will give you energy .
2. Edge Forward:
Once we define the purpose, we need to start taking actions.
I call it 3S-Small Simple Steps.
In this step,
I try to
Identify:-List out the key challenges I am facing today
Inhale:-Identify the knowledge I need to to consume to overcome the challenges
Iterate:-Define actions based on the challenges
Based on all these 3 steps
everyday I try to identify small simple steps to move ahead.
Our brain tends to resist only if
We are unsure of the activity we are going to do.
Our Brain doesn't like Uncertainty because Uncertainty means danger to the brain.
So I try to make things very very simple and clearly define
What am I going to do
Where am I going to do
How am I going to do
3. Encouragement
All the things we discussed till now will not work
if
We don’t have a way of measuring this.
I understood the importance of tracking progress late.
This cost me a lot of time.
Please try to avoid this.
So,
What really happens is
We take small simple steps
Repeat it for few days
Don’t see any outcome
Give it up
Instead the right process is
We take small simple step
Define in-process measures target(Like how many Miles we ran , How many mails we sent to leads , how many newsletter we wrote)
Track the actual vs target - This gives us energy because we see ourself progressing
Repeat it
Also,
We tend to set high goals for us from Day-1.
Picture this - You want to start a YouTube channel
The goal for you in the first Month is to get 5 subscribers
not 1,000 subscribers.
I learned that if we keep the goal simple
This gives us encouragement since it gives us a sign of progress.
In reality if you achieve 10 subscriber after the 1st month
but your target was to get 1,000 subscribers
you will feel demotivated
but
you will not feel the achievement you did by getting 10 subscribers .
Conclusion
Starting something new can feel overwhelming, but the key is to work with your brain’s resistance, not against it. Focus on what energizes you, take small, simple steps to reduce uncertainty, and track your progress to stay motivated. It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence. Take that first step today; even small wins lead to big changes.
